Angela Stallone is a researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in
Bologna, Italy.
She graduated in 2012 with the M.Sc. degree in Applied Geophysics from the IDEA League Joint Master's program, a joint program run by TU Delft, ETH Zurich and RWTH Aachen. She concluded her studies with a Master thesis on the simulation of propagation of seismic waves in a fractured medium with the 2D finite-difference method (“Seismic signatures of 2D fracture networks”) at TU Delft. From July 2011 till August 2011 she worked as a geoscientist intern at Statoil in Stavanger, Norway, where she gained experience in Oil & Gas reservoir characterization.
After graduating, she worked as a geophysicist at CGG in Den Haag, The Netherlands, where she engaged as a team member dedicated to software testing and enhancement, specifically focusing on the CGG stochastic inversion tool. In June 2015 she moved back to Italy to start a new career as a research scientist.
She received her PhD in Geophysics from the University of Roma TRE (in collaboration with INGV) in November 2018. She defended her dissertation on an unbiased and statistically rigorous analysis of earthquake occurrence, with implications for earthquake forecasting and seismic hazard assessment (“Statistical analysis of earthquake occurrences and implications for earthquake forecasting and seismic hazard assessment”).
Between November 2018 and March 2022, she served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at INGV, Rome, Italy. During this period, she strengthened her skills in Statistical Seismology and expanded her interests to Computational Seismology and High Performance Computing (HPC), with a focus on Full-Waveform Inversion and uncertainty quantification.
Her main research interests are Computational Seismology (forward and inverse problem) and HPC applications; uncertainty quantification in physics-based and GMMs-based ground motion modeling; probing the Moon (with seismic waves, of course!); development of innovative techniques for seismicity analysis and modeling.
